North Bend, originally named Yarrow reflects its geographic location at the north bend of the Coos Bay channel. North Bend currently has a growing population of over 9500 residents. It has a diverse economy including a U.S. Coast Guard Air Station, Oregon International Port of Coos Bay's Business Enterprise Center, and the Pony Village Mall, which is the largest enclosed mall on the Oregon coast. This entire area offers a wide variety of outdoor activities and is one of the busiest areas of the Oregon Coast.
Charleston is located at the ocean entrance to Coos Bay. It is an unincorporated community that is the area's commercial and sport fishing center, providing seafood processing and support services as well as several restaurants and shops that draw tourists to the area.
