Putnam County

Putnam County, West Virginia

Formed in 1848, Putnam County, with an approximate population of 51,589 (2000 census), was named after General Israel Putnam, a Revolutionary War hero. Much of the land here was surveyed by George Washinton and while we remain very proud of our history, we also are a progressive county with much to offer our visitors.
