New Braunfels, Texas (population over 57,740) is located in Comal County which lies approximately 30 miles from San Antonio, 46 miles from Austin, and 177 miles west of Houston. New Braunfels got its name from Prince Carl of Solms Braunfels who landed at Galveston in July 1844 for the purpose of finding an area in which to relocate german imigrants.
New Braunfels is the second-largest city in the San Antonio–New Braunfels Metropolitan Statistical Area.
