Greer

Greer lies at the foothills of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains in upstate South Carolina.  Greer was founded by James Manning Greer,  whose ancestry traces from Scotland, through Ireland. Many of his descendents still reside in the region. James Manning Greer was a descendant of John Greer who arrived in Charleston aboard the ship “The Falls”  in 1764. It has over 25,000 residents. Its boundaries straddle both Spartanburg and Greenville Counties.

Greenville County is the state’s most populated county.  Nearby communities include Taylors to the west and Duncan and Spartanburg to the east. Greer is one of the fastest growing communities in South Carolina. Growth can be found everywhere with new shopping malls and restaurants cropping up regularly. The two counties that Greer lies within affords Greer residents a great deal of employment opportunities, festivals, museums, and many other indoor and outdoor activities and attractions.

The median income for a household in the city was $33,140, and the median income for a family was $41,864.
