Massachusetts covers 10,555 square miles and has a population of 6,349,097 people. Massachusetts’s capital isBoston, which has a population of 589,141. Other important cities are Worcester (pop. 172,648), Springfield (pop. 152,082), Lowell (pop. 105,167), Cambridge (pop. 101,355), Brockton (pop. 94,304), New Bedford (pop. 93,768), Fall River (pop. 91,938), Lynn (pop. 89,050) and Quincy (pop. 88,025).

Massachusetts was admitted to the Union on February 6th, 1788 as the 6th state. The state flower is the “Mayflower” and its’ nickname is the “Bay State”. Massachusetts is bordered by Vermont and New Hampshire to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Rhode Island and Connecticut to the south and New York to the west. Massachusetts’s economy is broken into two categories; agriculture and industry. Seafood, nursery stock, dairy products, cranberries and vegetables provide for the agricultural side. Whilemachinery, electric equipment, scientific instruments, printing and publishing and tourism provide for the industrial side.
